Chefchaouen, also known as Chaouen in the local Berber language, gets its name from the two Honrs mountains located in the Riff mountain range in northern Morocco. The town was established in 1471 as a safe haven for Muslim and Jewish expatriates from Al Andalus. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, especially among Instagram users who are drawn to the city's reputation as one of the most captivating locations in Morocco.
If you're interested in visiting Chefchaouen, the tour will begin at 8:00 AM from your accommodation in Fes. Your driver will take you in your private car to explore the blue town. The drive to Chefchaouen is breathtakingly beautiful as you will pass through the Riff mountains a
nd miles of lush green forests on the way. You will also see one of the major dams, Sidi Shahid, which was built in 148 in Morocco and supplies water to the Fes and Meknes regions.
Once you arrive in Chefchaouen, take some time to explore the incredible blue alleys that make this town so unique. You'll have approximately four hours to wander through the picturesque small town streets of the old medina. Since this is a private day tour, you have the freedom to choose from a variety of activities while you're in Chefchaouen. For instance, you can explore the local shops, which offer a range of handcrafted merchandise unique to the town, such as colorful hats and Jellabas. Alternatively, you can relax in one of the cafes near the main square, known as Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the city.
To experience some of the town's culture and visit its most significant landmarks, we recommend checking out the Grand Mosque, the famous Kasbah (old fortress) built by Moulay Ismail to protect the sacred town, the Andlusian Garden within the Kasbah, the Ethnographic Museum, and the old weapons gallery.
